1. Don't live above your means
Your 20’s are the absolute best time to live below your means. Delay gratification and save religiously. No one expects you to live lavishly in your 20’s anyways. You have no reason to flaunt your wealth because 20 year old’s are not expected to be rich nor financially free yet. You can live with room mates, drive an old car, wear sweatpants every day and eat out because MOST people do that in their 20’s anyways. So embrace it.Â
2. Don't ignore your Credit Score!
Building your credit is very important. It’ll decide if you can get a loan for a car or maybe a house later in life. But your credit will only grow if you MAKE it grow today. You can easily get a perfect credit in 2-3 years for $0 out of pocket if you learn how to do this early on.
3. Don’t wait for things to happen
Nothing will happen if you don’t take the initiative to MAKE IT HAPPEN. If there’s something you want, it’s up to you to make it happen. If you have a dream or a goal, you’ll need to actively work for it. YOU are the one that decides if you can reach it or not, no one else. Set goals and take baby steps in your journey and eventually by the time 2 or 5 years pass you will be amazed at how much progress you have made.
4. Don’t play it too safe and take some risk
Nothing in this world comes easy. Knowing when to play it safe and when to take risks will help you a lot in the world. Getting in the habit of putting yourself in uncomfortable situations early on is going to make it easier to continue doing that in the future. Those are where your best opportunities usually are. Your younger years are perfect for you to make mistakes. Take advantage of that luxury because your youth is a great time to trail by error and you will still have time to recuperate from any losses.
5. Remember that no one has any idea what they’re doing
Take comfort knowing that you’re not alone, that other people are also struggling in planning for the future. Feeling like you don’t have it all figured out -that feeling probably won’t go away. Once that you know everyone feels that way and it’s normal, it gets easier. A lot of people have no clue what they’re doing or where they are heading. The fact you are reading this article or looking for advice on how to become successful, already puts you ahead of many people that just start doing this later on when they get old. Good job!
6. Don’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet
Don’t waste time thinking about what could, and instead focus on what will happen. Spend your time thinking about the most likely scenario and think about how you achieve that objective. If you’re stressing about things that don’t matter remember that you’re only wasting time on that when you could have been focusing on what actually does matter to you.Â
