The 5 Stages of Relationships Everyone Should Know
Relationships are a wonderful experience in life that consist of two people loving each other and accepting one another. While all relationships are different, you must realize that there will be hardships and stages you will go through for your love.
1. The Romance Stage
The first stage also known as the “Romance Stage”. It’s when the love that the two feel consumes a couple when they first get together. People in this stage of a relationship will feel as if they’ve found their “perfect match,” They feel they always want to be together, and boundaries often melt away. The two seem to merge together and can’t think rationally. This stage can last up to two years on some occasions. Â
2. The Power Struggle
The second stage also known as the power struggle stage is where trust develops. Trust as in, you trust the other person won’t do anything for their gain at your expense and that they will care about your feelings and needs as much as you do your own. This is the stage where couples are challenged to face our own fears about not being good enough or loveable. They are shown the cruel reality that no one is perfect and that perhaps you two are much more different then first thought.
3. The Stability Stage
4. The Commitment Stage
The fourth stage is the commitment stage, its learning to accept that there are things you can not control, realizing that your relationship has its ups and downs and that’s normal. This is the stage when people are actually ready to be married, instead of during the romance stage where they still feel the high of the relationship.
5. The Bliss Stage
The fifth stage where you two decide to act as a team against the world. Here you can fall back to the power struggle stage or even the romance stage again, but you have both learned to accept and appreciate each others differences and fight in a way that strengthens your connection instead of tearing it away. You both finally understand each other and know that no matter what hard ships may present themselves, you will get through it, together.
Final Thoughts
Love is something you fight for and fight to maintain as well. It isn’t easy and sometimes the other person may not wish to go through the effort at all. That’s okay because what matters is that you wish to go through all the stages and grow as a person. If they don’t that is their choice and their loss because perhaps they want to stay the same or are afraid of commitment, you now know what you want in a relationship.
