How I Vibe-Coded a Fitness Tracker App in 2 Months (With Zero Coding Experience)

I built a fitness tracker app in two months. It is live on the App Store. And when I started, I had zero coding experience.

No computer science degree. No bootcamp. No “learn to code in 30 days” course. Just a spreadsheet, a problem that annoyed me every single day, and a new way of building software called vibe coding.

This is the full story of how LYON XP went from a Google Sheet to a real app, and why I think workout tracking is the most underrated tool for muscle gains.

Why I Needed a Fitness Tracker for Muscle Gains

For months I tracked my workouts in Google Sheets. I built my own dashboard, my own formulas, my own system. It worked, but it was clunky. Every gym session meant fighting with cells on my phone between sets.

So I tried the popular fitness tracker apps. Every single one had the same problems: ugly interfaces, confusing navigation, and the worst part, they locked my own progress data behind a paywall. My own data!!!

The numbers I generated from my own sweat.🤨

Here is the thing most lifters miss: tracking your workouts is not optional if you want muscle gains. Progressive overload, the actual mechanism behind building muscle, only works if you know what you lifted last time. If you are training off memory, you are guessing. And guessing does not build muscle.

I needed a fitness tracker built for one thing: making every workout count toward real, measurable progress. Since nobody had built it, I built it myself.

What Is Vibe Coding? (How I Built an App Without Knowing How to Code)

Vibe coding is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of writing code line by line, you describe what you want in plain language and AI builds it. You review, you test, you say “no, move that button” or “this screen looks wack” and it adjusts.

Think of it like directing instead of acting. Hence why I call myself “Creative Director” on Instagram. (I basically direct all my Youtube videos and now an app).

You do not need to know how the camera works to direct a film. You need to know what you want the audience to feel.

I’m not going to pretend it was effortless. Vibe coding still requires taste, patience, and a clear vision of what you are building. The AI writes the code, but you make every decision. What features matter. How the app should feel. What to cut. What colors to use and what happens when you click x, y, and Z button.

But the barrier that used to stop non-developers, actually writing Swift, managing databases, handling App Store submission, is gone. Two months. Zero coding experience. One shipped app. I did that.

The 2-Month Build: From Spreadsheet to App Store

Month one was the foundation. I took everything I had learned from years of spreadsheet tracking and turned it into an actual product spec: log workouts fast between sets, see your progress over time, and never paywall your own data.

Month two was polish and shipping. Real app icons. Real onboarding. TestFlight builds. Then the App Store review process, which is its own special kind of anxiety.

When LYON XP went live, it was surreal. The spreadsheet that started as a personal hack was now an app anyone could download.

Why Tracking Workouts Is the Secret to Muscle Gains

Let me be blunt: most people who “work out” are not training. They are exercising. There is a difference.

Training means every session connects to the last one. You did 185 for 6 last week, so this week you go for 185 for 7, or 190 for 5. That is progressive overload, and it is the single most proven driver of muscle growth.

But here is the catch nobody talks about: progressive overload is impossible without accurate records. Your memory lies to you. You think you did 8 reps, you did 6. You think you have been stuck for two weeks, it has been two months.

A good fitness tracker for muscle gains does three things:

  1. Makes logging fast enough to do between sets ✅
  2. Shows you exactly when you beat your last session 📈
  3. Exposes plateaus you did not know you had 🔬

That is what I built LYON XP to do.

LYON XP Is Free: Here Is What It Does

LYON XP is a simple, powerful workout tracker built to help you train with purpose. Log workouts in seconds. Track your progress with clean visuals. Watch your strength climb week after week.

It is free on the App Store, and your data is yours. No paywall on your own progress. That was the whole point.

If you are serious about muscle gains in 2026, stop training off memory. Download LYON XP here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lyon-xp-fitness-tracker/id6807535807

FAQ

Can you really build an app with no coding experience?

Yes. Vibe coding tools let you describe what you want in plain language while AI handles the code. You still need a clear vision and good taste, but you do not need to write a single line of code yourself.

What is the best fitness tracker for muscle gains?

The best fitness tracker for muscle gains is the one you will actually use every session. It needs fast logging, clear progress history, and progressive overload tracking. I built LYON XP to be exactly that, and it is free.

How long does it take to build an app with vibe coding?

It depends on the complexity, but I shipped a complete fitness tracker in 2 months working around a full-time job. A focused builder could go faster.
